Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS) 2006 Overview
2006-02-21

  APNOMS 2006 Overview:

The Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS) has been one of the premier conferences on network operations and management, in accord with IEEE/IFIP NOMS (Network Operations and Management Symposium), IFIP/IEEE DSOM (Distributed Systems: Operations and Management), and IFIP/IEEE IM (International Symposium on Integrated Network Management).

APNOMS is sponsored by the KICS (Korea Institute of Communication Science) Committee on Korean Network Operations and Management (KNOM) and IEICE (Institute of Electronics,Information and Communication Engineers) Technical Committee on Telecommunication Management (TM).

APNOMS is supported by the IEEE Committee on Network Operations and Management (CNOM), IEEE Asia-Pacific Board (APB), and IEEE Comsoc Japan Chapter and TeleManagement Forum (TMF).

Since 1997, APNOMS has provided annual forum for the research, standards, development, system integrator, vendor, network operators and user communities in telecommunication network/service operations and management. Beginning with the first APNOMS`97 in Seoul Korea, a series of successful symposia had been held in Sendai Japan, Kyongju Korea, Nara Japan, Sydney Australia, Jeju Korea, Fukuoka Japan, and Okinawa Japan.

The 9th Asia-Pacific Network Operations and Management Symposium (APNOMS2006) will be held in Busan Korea from September 27 to 29, 2006. Busan is the second biggest city in Korea, and the recent APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) had been hosted. You can easily reach there by frequent direct flight from major cities in Japan, and via Incheon International airport from most international major cities.

The theme of APNOMS 2006 is "Management of Broadband Ubiquitous Convergence Networks and Services." Recently, variou convergences in wired and wireless networks, and convergence of telecommunications and broadcastings are taking place for ubiquitous multimedia service provisioning. For example, broadband IP/MPLS wired network are actively converged with IEEE 802.11e wireless LAN, IEEE 802.16 Wireless MAN, 3G/4G wireless cellular networks, and direct multimedia broadcast (DMB) network. For efficient support of service provisioning for ubiquitous multimedia services on the broadband convergence networks, well-designed and implemented network operations and management functions with QoS-guaranteed traffic engineering are essential.

The gole of this sThe goal of this symposium is to gather people with various backgrounds to share the current status of standardizations and technology development in broadband ubiquitous convergence networks and services.
