To improve the function of Internet infrastructure in China, the Ministry of Information Industry and China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) will conduct a thorough evaluation and re-planning on the top servers of domain names across the country. The signing ceremony of national top domain name server held in Shanghai on Dec. 21 marks China's first step forward to the re-planning of national top domain name service system, as well as a strategic readjustment to China's domain name analytic service system. As a widely used Internet address, the domain name is the communication basis for application of all Internet. In the Internet age, the domain name system is a strategic infrastructure for national cyber security. According to Mao Wei, director of CNNIC, who is in charge of China's national top domain system, the analysis of domain name is in direct proportion to the development level of Internet application. The rapid development of the Internet in China in recent years has accelerated the growth of analysis of domain name in China, meanwhile, it has also set higher requirement on the service system for domain name analytical work. Statistics show that at present the number of China's web surfers has topped 90 million, ranked second in the world. The total registration number of CN domain name is growing by 10,000 a month, hitting the 430,000 mark, and the number of websites has topped 650,000. The national top domain name server operated and managed by CNNIC is required to handle the analysis of over 380 million domain names a day. In the face of the new situation of rapid Internet development, CNNIC, a Chinese domain name registration and management institution, under the guidance of the Ministry of Information Industry, has this year revalued the national top domain name analytical nodes previously laid in four regions across the country, and rearranged CN domain name nodes according to the evaluation results. Mao notes that the current evaluation is considered mainly from two aspects: One is the actual demand of domain name analysis made in light of local Internet development; second is harsh term placed on the software and hardware of an enterprises to see whether they are up to the requirements for top nodes. The Shanghai node is the first node included in the re-planning. This move will greatly improve China's domain name analytical service function, so that the network in China will operate more steadily. Relevant experts believe that with the sustained development of Internet in China, the importance of domain name will be self-evident when Internet is closely linked with people's daily life as water and electricity are in the coming 10 years or even shorter. |
